Old George has thumped down heavily on the steps now that the pounding from inside has stopped. He appears tired as he looks around the little square his school corners on. This is when Thaus LetterMaster appears.
Thaus is an older man as far as age is concerned, but he is still quite fit, despite his time on ships. He is well dressed in the latest fashion for this time of year including the fur vest and horrible pelted hat. After being caught up on the situation and looking around inside he shakes his head. "We will need to investigate and see if it was just a coincidence or if we were targeted." He looks over to Valdor, "I expect that you can discreetly look into what is going on? Engage the priests if you must, but, you can understand the implications if one of the other guilds were to think us weak and under attack."

"Yes Sir, I will do my best. I will only engage the priests if absolutely necessary. And you can be assured of my discretion. I have never anticipated anything so horrible." When she finished speaking Valdor struggled to retain her composure. Squeaky emerges from her hood and nuzzles her chin. Valdor smoothed he rich brown hood and drew her cloak around her, as if preparing for battle.

Following their last foray in the sewers Valdor returned to the LetterMaster compound. Stopping by the gates, she requested a servant to sluice her down, removing as much of the sewer filth as was possible. Then she removed all clothing except that required for decency; a thorough shower, followed by a relaxing bath and Valdor felt human once more. Garbed in clean leggings, robe and vest and her fly away clean hair neatly plaited Valdor was ready for her meeting.
Valdor had requested her father's assistant to coordinate a meet between her father, Old George and herself, to be held at the school. Soon the three were within the walls of learning. "Father, Old George, I have some findings to report." The men nodded in interest. "I have journeyed into the sewers with my companions. We discovered vandalism and mutant beasts, small and large. However," continued Valdor, "it was on our last foray that we encountered the undead. Ghastly, human but not human and to make it worse they were feasting on an adolescent boy".
Thaus and Old George exchanged a look.

Thaus tosses the hat he holds in his hands on to George's desk and plops down to the floor in one of the large bean bag style chairs in near the five books on a shelf in one corner. "Dead child, it is unfortunate to hear that. I've had my ear to the ground and heard whispers of more than a handful of missing children, but mostly in Dockside and around here. Most people just chalk it up to running away to squire under a ships officer as cabin boy, which is likely true for all but the two that you have seen dead."
George sits nearby on one of the stools for the work tables the students use as desks. "This seems like foul deeds though. Obviously, if these were zombies of adults, there could be more people missing that aren't known about."

Valdor ran here fingers through her hair, disrupting her carefully arranged braid. " What shall we do? Or how do you wish me to proceed"?

"Frankly, I'm not sure" replies Thaus who looks to George.
George shrugs, "Have you had a chance to read up on how these creatures can be created? Maybe speak with the clergy, or your peers at the Institute. Knowing how they are made might give you an idea of where they are being made, and if you can find the source then it can be stopped. Unless you can think of something else."

Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition
In the game's third edition, "Undead" became a "creature type".
In the third edition of the game, all undead have darkvision out to sixty feet. Undead have a wide array of immunities, including being immune to: all mind-affecting effects, poison, sleep effects, paralysis, stunning, disease, and death effects. They are also not subject to critical hits, nonlethal damage, ability drain, or energy drain. Most Dungeons & Dragons undead can be "turned" (driven away) or destroyed by a good cleric, and rebuked (forced to cower) or bolstered by an evil cleric

Created, I believe they have always been with us but lay dormant until evil forces cause them to rise and infect humans with their living death.

I believe that our initial Zombie have been raised by an evil cleric. once awakened they preyed on unknowing children, using them as food and in the process infected them. Did this happen when the grave was opened? Can we find a cleric in the temple to assist us in vanquishing the original Zombie and his accolades?

After the party leaves the brother, Valdor returns to her home. She quickly seeks out an audience with Thuas and within minutes is seated in a lavish sitting room.
A large fire roars in a stone hearth and mantel, above the fire is an oil canvas of a stern looking but beautiful young woman with creamy white skin. The smell of tobacco is thick in the air, and Thaus sits smoking a large corn-cob pipe with a glass of brandy in his hand. He wears his evening clothes, and only the light of the fire helps the weak light of Sohl that filters through the lace curtains. The two small windows are open, and a light breeze flutters the curtains from time to time. On the small table next to Thaus is the book he was reading until he called for Valdor to enter.
"A drink? Of course. Justice, pour a glass for Valdor."
The perfectly crisp movements of Thaus's personal assistant and body guard are quick and to the point as he brings the drink over to Valdor, a deep blood red wine imported from somewhere in the Amnon Wilderness far to the south. With a nod towards the side table Justice smiles, "I can trust you to see to his drink and smoke if he needs it?"
Without waiting for an answer, the man is through the door and into the hall to stand guard over the room.

"Father", Valdor falters. How to ask what she must. She restarted, "My comrades and I went to the temple and were able to meet with a cleric. However, I now have even more questions".
Thaus replied, "Go on..."
"What can you tell me of Thomas MisenNeedle?"

"I'm not sure my dear, unless you mean Tommy. Don't look at me like that, quite honestly, I don't know for certain. I do remember the surname though, it came to be under our house.
"The Misenneedle family is four generations old. The first son was found in one of our ships with a couple of stowaways in a crossing from Mandibar back home by way of the old beacon. It was one of our first long voyages under our own power, up until then the elves had always transported everything. With humans at the helm a few refugees fleeing some war or other found their into the hold. They weren't found until the ship was out of sight of the horizon and the elven fleet wouldn't wait. All were brought here and given gainful employment in what way we could.
"Over the years the young child grew to a man and to some level of prestige among the family. He had only two children before passing on, a daughter who passed in child birth and a son, who would be Tommy's great grand father. The generation of Tommy's Grandfather was a bloody one, of six brothers, only 1 survived to be wed, the rest cut down in skirmishes with orcs in our first venture into the herding business - as you know it didn't go well for us, so we leave that to the Druids.
"Tommy's grandfather had become a capable commander and continued to rise, to the point where he died leading a caravan with his only son and two of his three grand sons on its way to Ffeedom. Tommy was a savant, brilliant and talented, an aspiring magician - he would have been about 18 when we got news of the caravan. His mother was broken, we would have taken care of her, but she demanded payment for a job incomplete to leave with, that was refused so she left anyhow. That was when we heard the last of anything about Tommy, Nantoni stopped teaching after his last conversation with the boy. If he were still alive, I would say that he might know more of Tommy, that's all I know of him, saying it is the same man. Now you had best explain why I am airing history of our family to you."

Valdor again chose her words careful, "I was suggested by the cleric that Thomas MisenNeedle might have something to do with the undead." She stepped back under her father's fierce look.

Thuas does look upset at that, but noticing his daughter's step away, he settles back in to his chair. "So the clerics are putting the blame for this on us, I guess then you had best figure out a way to clean things up. I will ask our contacts to peel back a few layers of the city's privacy and see if they can't uncover where he might be, if he's still here. You can coordinate with Justice." You can see from his last statement that you are dismissed, he reaches over and picks up his book, repacks his pipe and cracks open the cover.
In the hallway, Valdor finds herself face to face with Justice. He is what most would best call efficient, in his late twenties or early thirties, about 5'8" and lean. The type of man you would find in any human city with north humans, except for his crisp green eyes. These eyes see all, and for as long as Valdor has known the man, she has trusted his memory. After listening to Valdor, Justice simply nods, "It will be done, but there is one contact that perhaps you should speak to in my stead. Torin Mainsail was, at one time, a student with Tommy, and he may remember more. He should still be at Nantoni's School, his position as acting Dean of Evocation usually keeps him fairly busy."

"Refresh my memory, where is Nantoni's School? And would you advise I send for an appointment or would it be be best to catch him unawares? and by the way, does the name Thomas MisenNeedle mean anything to you?"
